Belle Gig and News Story

We had a blast playing at the Belle Mehus theatre in Bismarck yesterday, on a roster that included Shawn Oban, blues monsters Levee, and the Low Down Dirty Dogs. A really fun show, and one that was filmed by Dakota Media Access for broadcast later this spring.

Until then, though, you can hear parts of it in the background of this interview with Ian and Jamie, on KFYR News.

How We Do It

We are proud to share the first fruits of our ongoing recording project: the music video for “How We Do It.” The video footage was recorded at two different shows at Custer Park in the summer of 2010, edited together by Mike Chaussee. The track itself was recorded and mixed in David’s basement, and mastered at Six Plus One Studios by the ever-talented Kevin Smith.

Blind Mice on TV!

We had a great time playing the Brown Bag concert series at Custer Park yesterday. KXMB news were there, and Megan Lowry interviewed Ian about being a ten-year-old musician. You can see the story here

Urban Harvest on July 8th!

We’re excited to open the season for this year’s Urban Harvest. We’ll be playing at 6pm on July 8th, rockin’ out for about an hour and then kicking back and enjoying a set by the Midnight Noise Orchestra. We’ll be playing tunes from the upcoming album, including some funky new tunes that will fill that hole in your soul you didn’t know you had. Here’s a flyer:

David Mack joins Blind Mice!

Big changes going on here at Blind Mice central. We were sad to bid farewell last month to our bass player Rick Hanson, who left us because of family commitments. We loved playing with Rick and wish him the best. This left us somewhat at sea over the upcoming recording, planned gigs for the summer, etc.

But, because situations usually work out for the best, we are happy to announce the solution along with the problem. We are really excited to be welcoming David Mack as our new bassist! David is a regular on the Bismarck scene, most visibly as a guitarist for Lost Horses. But his background and heart are with the low end, and his years of playing slap bass in New Orleans are heavily evident in the funk-tinged grease he brings to our sound. We’ve already¬†had a couple of rehearsals with Dave, and we have upped our funk level by a factor of ten. You can’t wait to hear this guy, truly.

So–the CD will happen, but we’re going to take most of the summer to rehearse and play the gigs on the schedule already. We’re hoping to get all the old and new tunes tight and reworked to accomodate David’s basslines, so that we can go into the studio in late July or early August to lay it down right. Thus the release gig has been moved to September 11th, still in Custer Park. You’ll hear much more about that before it happens.

Check out the concert dates page, and make sure to catch us at one of those gigs this summer. Come out, say hi to David, and get your groove on with Blind Mice. See you there.

Summer’s Coming…

Summer is just around the corner, and Blind Mice are gearing up for the best one yet. Rehearsals start tonight for the upcoming album, which will be recorded in early June at Makoche Recording Studios here in Bismarck. The album will feature eleven original songs, including four brand new tunes that have never been heard by non-Mice ears. We’ll be posting pics and video of rehearsals and album prep on this site and the Facebook page just to whet your appetite for the funk-fried delicacies we’re preparing.

Our live shows start up again soon afterwards, starting with a CD pre-sale birthday bash extravaganza in Bismarck’s Custer Park in honor of both the new album and Ian’s 10th birthday. More details here coming soon.

So get ready, y’all. The Mice are gonna show you how we do it. Stay tuned…

Hi everybody, this is Ian. I’m excited to announce that Blind Mice are going to be recording our first ever album this spring! We’re hoping to release it in mid-June, on my 10th birthday. We can’t wait!

2 days ago we went out to Makoche Recording Studios to check the place out. It’s a really nice place, especially the actual studio. They have panels in the wall that swing from side to side to give an acoustic effect of a lively sound or a more dead sound. The drum room is – pinkish.¬† It actually looks pretty cool. From there, you can see across the main room (which has an awesome grand piano) into the control room. They have a huge control board. I’m not kidding. There must be at least a hundred knobs on it, which just goes to show the complete control that you have over the sound of the album. I think that it’s going to be a great place to record our CD.

We’ll keep you updated as we start working on the recording. Have a great week!

Family Fun at the Governor’s House!

Actually, it’s the Former Governor’s Mansion, a ND State Historic Site. They’re hosting a family fun extravaganza on Sept. 10th, with ice cream, free self-guided tours of the mansion, and music by ….. BLIND MICE!

This is our last public show for the summer season. We’ll be taking a break for a little while to recharge our batteries, get into the swing of school, and write a few new songs. So make sure you come out to the Former Governor’s Mansion in the Historic Cathedral district of downtown Bismarck at 6pm on Sept. 10th. We’ll play around 7pm and do two forty-five minute sets.

See you there!

So it’s up to you guys. Download the flyer below, hang it up everywhere you go, and then tell all your friends to come out and see us play at Urban Harvest at 7pm on August 13th. Then show up on the 13th with your dancing shoes on.
